Research topics
Main focus of the research is to integrate the dynamic responses of living organisms in the monitoring and control of biological processes. The approach of systems biology to humans, animals and plants. The application of data-based mechanistic models to control the microenvironment in fluids around living organisms and to the responses of living organisms. The use of data-based mechanistic models to gain insight in biological processes: Precision engineering for humans, Precision livestock farming and precision engineering for plants.
Integration of on-line Bio-response signals for driver sleepiness monitoring and prediction
Development of predictive models for intensive care patients
Development of a safer crash helmet for cyclists
Mice in the international space station
Development of a quantitative method for a more objective evaluation of animal welfare in housing systems for laying hens
Process control in livestock applications
Further development and optimisation of an airflow pattern sensor for climate control in agricultural buildings
Eco-physiological process control by applying phyto-monitoring and on-line diagnosis
Integration of bio-responses in the control strategy of an incubation process
Validation of a measuring procedure to determine odor and NH3 emission from livestock building. Preposition of the new Flemish criteria for reduced NH3 emission
